Progress is measured against 195 countries: the 193 UN member states plus the Holy See and Palestine. Kosovo and Taiwan can be tracked and appear on your map, but they are not part of that 195 total. Territories do not count on their own. This is a counting policy so that everyone's numbers mean the same thing — it is not a statement about sovereignty.
The world map is drawn at a scale that keeps the whole planet readable, so microstates and small islands are too small to tap reliably. Every country in the catalog is still there: use the search or the country list to find it and change its status exactly as you would from the map.
Country Goals draws its map from Natural Earth (Admin 0 – Countries, 1:110m), which is in the public domain, and renders it with the Equal Earth projection so country sizes stay honest. Boundaries are informational, and at this scale disputed borders, overseas territories, and tiny states are necessarily approximate.
Yes. The country catalog and the map are bundled inside the app, so browsing, changing a country's status, and creating goals all work with no connection and no iCloud account. Your changes are saved on the device first, then synced when you are back online.
Country Goals has a public GitHub repo for issues.
Make sure you are signed in to iCloud and that iCloud Drive is enabled for Country Goals in Settings. Syncing happens in the background and can take a few minutes. If a device still looks out of date, try editing a country to prompt a fresh sync, and as a last resort delete the app and reinstall.
